Greggs lovers will be pleased to know 150 new stores are set to open this year, including a drive-thru trial - we have all the details plus our top Greggs money-saving tips.
Success for the bakery continues to roll in as Greggs was named the most popular dining brand in the UK according to Statica, beating fast food giant McDonald's.
It’s no surprise as the rising cost of living bites household spending, and a Greggs sausage roll is an affordable £1.20.
Here’s what to expect from Greggs this year.
Greggs to open 150 new stores in 2023
The food chain opened a record 186 new eateries in 2022 taking its total branches to 2,328, and it has a bigger goal to have more than 3,000 stores around the UK.
The bakery has already extended its store opening hours in around 500 stores to 8pm or later, making it perfect for a bargain dinner for many, and now it plans to open 150 more sites this year.
We don’t know the locations of the 150 stores yet, but this article will be updated when we know more.
Greggs also plans to relocate 40 of its branches to bigger sites, and it wants to gradually trial a 24-hour drive-thru service.
You can already find a Greggs drive-thru in the following cities around the UK:
- Meadowhall Retail Park, Sheffield
- Saltbox Road, Bognor Regis
- Westgate Retail Park, Slough
- Allerdyce Court, Glasgow
- Bonyrigg Road, Dalkieth
- Sandy Lane, Newcastle
- Southwell Road West, Mansfield

Greggs money-saving tips
Here are some top tips to make your money go even further at Greggs.
Download the Greggs rewards app. When you initially download the app you get a free hot drink, and the freebies don’t stop there. On your birthday you get a free ‘sweet treat’ and if you use the rewards app to collect stamps every time you go to Greggs, after your ninth stamp your 10th item will be free.
Freebies on O2 Priority. If you’re an O2 or Virgin Mobile customer, you have access to their rewards app O2 Priority and they offer the following Greggs freebies: A free breakfast roll on Friday and Saturday until 11am, a free sausage roll or vegan sausage roll every Friday and Saturday and a free hot drink from 7am on any day of the week.
Opt for Iceland’s frozen Greggs range. If you didn’t know, Iceland has a frozen section full of goods from Greggs, and it actually works out cheaper than buying a pasty individually from the shop itself. For example, an eight-pack of sausage rolls cost £5.75, so one sausage roll works out to be 72p each. That’s saving you 45p per sausage roll and £3.60 for eight. And with the rising cost of living, it’s also worth looking at swapping some other foods out from fresh to frozen.
Student discount. Students who show their Student Beans ID or valid student card can get one of the following free when they buy a sandwich lunch deal at Greggs: Sausage roll, vegan sausage roll, cheese & onion bake or a sweet treat.
Use a reusable cup. If you get a hot drink from Greggs in a reusable cup, you get 20p off. That brings a tea down to 80p and a white coffee will cost you £1.40.
